Gratitude

“Be where your feet are” is something an old counselor of mine used to say. Today I am reminded of him as I sit with my fellow leaders-in-training (LITs) at a quiet spot at camp. It is the 6th day of my being here this summer, although it doesn’t feel that way at all. Time moves too quickly at Gravatt, which is why it is good to take the morning off with my people and simply be, in silence, in gratitude, in love.
I think it is a good thing I can’t get in the lake. I instead sit on the land, with some shade and some sun, watching as everyone else plays. I find a good view and settle in for the time remaining, which is not much, and I feel more appreciative and fulfilled. I am sweaty, but it does not matter. I think I know better how lucky we are this way. I like watching my people be in my place. I don’t think I ever would have thought to forgo a nice swim for a better view, so I am glad I am pushed to this way. It gives some perspective, some stillness, something I did not have while swimming in the lake with the others.
